SMTSM is a patented process developed by Foamex that allows the creation of a single piece of foam with varying features and properties. SMTSM enables the foam surface to be modified in six key ways: pattern type, position, size and spacing, as well as depth of cut and level.

Foamex automotive engineers have taken advantage  of   SMTSM technology to create an advanced foam-backed carpet system for vehicle interiors.

Foamex's foam-backed SMTSM carpet system reduces vehicle weight by two to six pounds per vehicle and significantly diminishes interior noise.

The first automotive application of this unique product was for a major North American domestic automaker's redesigned line of '97 minivans.

Other cushioning applications of SMTSM include:

  • mattress toppers
  • mattress pads, and
  • bed pillows.

SMTSM is also used in the first nationally branded carpet cushion -- ComfortWearSM.
